Please forgive me!

I know, I know, I have been a real sporadic blogger lately!  I have plenty of excuses, which I’m sure you aren’t interested in hearing about. We had company, though – our son and daughter in law and our granddaughter came over from México City for five days.  Our son travels a lot on business and our daughter in law is busy with her Foundation so it had been hard to find a time we could get together.  Consuelo is...

We’ve had a fun week!

Last weekend we sent the dogs off to doggie camp and headed to a small town in Jalisco.  Daughter Jess had arrived in Guadalajara earlier in the week to spend vacation with a friend from New York who was visiting family here for the first time in many years.  Of course since they were so close we were hoping they would come to Mazatlán to visit us, and it worked out that we met them at the family rancho in...

Back from the big manzana

I am back from a long weekend with my son and his family in Mexico City.  Of course it was wonderful to see them. I arrived Friday morning and spent the morning drinking coffee and playing with Consuelo along with my daughter in law Martha and her mother.  I hadn’t seen her mother in about five years or so – I think the last time we saw her we visited her in Colima while we were exploring places to live...

Nana’s on her way…

It seems to me that Halloween is catching on here in Mexico, but that doesn’t mean that Day of the Dead is taking a lower profile. Kids walked around Centro in costume but they basically called out “Halloween” here and there, not really expecting candy.  I think if anything it is another day to wear a costume an have parties, and that makes for a popular day for kids. All the blogs here in Mexico seem to have had their...

We know how to have fun.

We have been off goofing around with daughter Jess instead of blogging… here is a peek into what we were up to for the last week.  Along with reading, talking, coffee drinking, dog walking, and all the rest. She got in Friday afternoon, and our previous post showed the delicious cupcakes we devoured and the beautiful sunset we enjoyed from the top of the Freeman Hotel in Centro. Saturday we took a drive up to El Quelite and had lunch...

A few observations – North and South of the border

The Highway We arrived in Seattle at dusk and by the time we were driving North in our rental car it was full-on dark. We were driving along like kids who’d never seen the city marveling at the brightly illuminated highway.  Five lanes each way, with bright white striping marking the way.  Endless rows of red tail lights in front of us and endless rows of headlights the other way. All so orderly, so lined up and neat.  Blinkers blinking....

A step back in time

In early April, we had visitors here for a couple of weeks…and as soon as they left we headed to Mérida for the blogger get together and I never shared any of the photos from their visits.  So, in part in order to avoid all talk of the country-wide shut down, here goes! Son Adam and his family came first.  One not so funny thing…when we left the house to go get them at the airport, Guadalupe was finishing up...

This post might have to hold you…

We have had family here for almost two weeks, my apologies to those of you who came looking for a new post! It has been so fun!  First son Adam, daughter in law Martha, and granddaughter Consuelo arrived.  We had a few days with them, and then my sister joined the fun. We have been to the beach at Playa Norte, the beach at Stone Island, and many places in between.  The mercado, shopping, pedicures, playing with the baby, playing...

It’s hard to explain sometimes

Paul and I spent yesterday with my cousin and his wife who came into town on a cruise ship and were only here for about 7 hours. They have been very curious our decision to move and have followed the blog to keep up on what’s going on. So when they decided to take a cruise that included a stop in Mazatlán in order to have a visit with us, we were touched. We picked them up at the cruise...

I’m having a Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone!  I am sorry about my break from blogging for the last week, but I went to Mexico City to visit my new granddaughter…and blogging took a back seat! I flew in to Toluca again, and the savings and the slower pace at the airport make it pretty relaxed travel.  When you get to Toluca, Volaris has a shuttle (actually a big bus) that takes you to their station in San Jose.  From there Adam arranged for...

What’s up?

Well, of course, it is baby Consuelo!  My son has been wonderful, sending lots of pictures and video, but I just HAVE to go visit her…so I am off to Mexico City for a long weekend Friday.  YAY!  In the picture above, do you notice the blanket  that’s keeping her warm?  Yep, that’s the blanket I knit for her. I finished a bit of knitting recently.  This shawl is about all I need at night  in Mazatlán, and I just...

Happy Birthday

I am a sentimental fool, totally in love with a granddaughter I haven’t even met in person.  She is so beautiful, and in her I feel such hope for the future.  We all sense the potential that she is about to explore, and I feel the optimism of her entire family for a world that she is a part of. That she will be loved –  is loved – is without question.  She will be encouraged but not coddled.  She’ll...

I remember a long time ago…

Today would have been my dad’s 82nd. birthday.  He died in 1982 and while I frequently don’t notice the anniversary of his death, I always remember his birthday.  He was an incredible person…brilliant, thoughtful, kooky, loving, and hardworking. I started to write a short summary of what made him so interesting and special, and it started to go on for too long and I realized that it wouldn’t do him justice.  But still I thought I would like to...

Fun Weekend in DF

Adam and Martha are expecting their baby in the next couple of weeks.  They are planning on having at least a week or two of “nesting” time with their little one before they invite company so we decided to have a quick visit. We love visiting them and we love the neighborhood they live in – Condesa.  There are a couple of large parks and the walking path down the center of Amsterdam makes the whole neighborhood feel like a...

Family Fun

I am so excited – son Phil and his family are here!  We have been having a wonderful time, Sunday hung around the house, went out for drinks, and made a wonderful dinner at home.  Monday we walked the dogs and rambled around Centro and then went to Stone Island for a day of swimming, lounging, and relaxing.  What could be better than that? This morning we’re going out to breakfast and this evening heading to a Venados game –...
