The Cool Season in Mazatlan

The weather is perfect here in Mazatlan. Perfect for growing vegetables. Perfect for exercising outdoors. Perfect for dogs to have fun roughhousing. Perfect for pretty much everything. At the top of this post is a collage from the Organic Market. We love heading over there when they open for first pick of all the great treats and produce. Today my lucky finds include sweet cherry tomatoes, kale, green beans, basil and micro-greens. Last week I bought a new tee shirt...

Weird but Wonderful Winter

There has been strange weather all around North America this winter, from polar vortexes to late season hurricanes and everything in between.  I can’t say that it’s that dramatic here in Mazatlán, but all of us here know that this is a very strange winter.  Usually by now we have had some chilly days (and nights) where we hunt down socks and shoes and even a sweater or coat to put on.  We add a blanket to the bed and...

It’s the season to be ….busy.

I went AWOL again, I know!  Lots has been going on, we are having fun for sure.  I never got around to editing the video of the Carnaval parades, and I have to confess it probably isn’t going to happen now.  But here’s some of what we’ve been up to: We went to the Bow Wow Meow, a fundraiser for Proyecto Animales de la Calle (PAC) at the Condominium Om.  It was a great event, a lot of money was...

Siesta time

Somehow those hot and humid days of summer became etched into my retinas. Until the last couple of days I couldn’t actually believe that you could go outdoors and sit in the sun – YES – in the sun – without expiring (and perspiring) in a matter of seconds. Why can the heat have so much more power than the perfect? The last two days in the afternoon I have taken my tea and my book (…er, Kindle) out on...

It’s starting to look a lot like…

Christmas around here. Paul and I are usually a bit indifferent to decorating for the season.  Two years ago we didn’t decorate the house and only at the last minute decided to buy each other gifts.  Last year we put up a few decorations we’d bought in Guadalajara the month before, but it was very minimal. This year we bought a tree (yes, it’s artificial).  That has been joined by a huge star piñata, some icicle lights and a rope...

Excuses, excuses

I know I have been a bad blogger lately, but in wintertime there is just so much going on!  And not just social stuff, either.  I actually got some energy for a total redo of my office and sewing stuff and one of our guest rooms.  And after that I sewed myself a new blouse.  (Which, unfortunately, I don’t really like.) In winter activities like moving furniture and sitting at the sewing machine are possible to do without any discomfort...

Our Last Snowy Winter

This is a picture of the front piece of our property. Kind of looks like a Christmas card, doesn’t it? We’ve had snow on the ground for the last week, and another snowstorm hit this morning. Paul is working from home…the weatherman says it will turn to rain by this afternoon. We really hope it does since we have to pick up Paul’s daughter at the airport this afternoon. It hardly seems possible that we could be hoping for rain!...
