Paul and I have a thing for black dogs. Back in the US we even named our property Black Dog Farm. Lucy the lab mix was our first black dog. Here’s Lucy with our second black dog, a Scottish Terrier, Angus. Angus died about a year before we moved, of cancer.
Angus did have a chance to meet Henry, though. Henry joined our pack when my boss and his family (after careful research and $750) decided (after 1 week) that they couldn’t actually have a puppy.
Henry is a Schnauzer-Poodle mix. It is a designer breed called a Schnoodle. For most of his life, we have kept him trimmed like a schnauzer, (see previous post) but we decided to see if he wanted to try being a poodle for a while. It is hot here and he had some mats under his chin.
I think after the summer he’ll go back to being a schnauzer again!

August 16, 2008Is it just my imagination — or does Henry have a very definite opinion about his new haircut? After all these years, dogs still amaze with with how expressive they can be.

August 16, 2008I think Henry really looks cute in his schnauzer suit. He looks okay in his poodle costume but adorable as a schnauzer, it fits his build better. Either way, you have one cute pup! Our groomer will clip Mr Dog anyway we want as long as we want either a schnauzer cut or a poodle clip..Right now he looks like shaggy dog.

August 16, 2008OMG! They are all so cute. Henry in his summer swim wear is adorable. I’ll bet he is happy to be cooler.
The first thing that hit me when you talked about Black Dog Farm was how much easier it would be to buy fabric that didn’t show dog hair. I have too many colors I have to cover up.

August 16, 2008Yes, I think Henry is better suited to being a schnauzer, his bigote (whiskers) are already growing out!
Don’t even get me started on dog hair! Although with the ceiling fans running you can pretty much find it tumbling around in the corners instead of just everywhere!

August 16, 2008One of our ranch dogs in San Antonio was an australian shepherd, she was mortified when I shaved her down one summer. You could really tell, she was thoroughly embarrassed!

August 16, 2008I meant to also add, we had another that thought she was the queen of Sheba after a shave down!

August 17, 2008Our favorite restaurant here in Bayfield is the Black Dog Bistro ..the owner's black dog is usually walking around inside or out on the patio.
You & Paul have sweet looking furry kids !

August 17, 2008With his new haircut Henry looks like a miniature Lucy! You didn’t mention whether you did it yourself. I’m glad you left the pompom off the tail! 8^D

August 20, 2008My favorite dog of all time was a black Schnoodle! Whenever I would give her the poodle look, she would just slink around for days like she didn’t want people to see her! I think letting Henry go back to being a Schnauzer is a good idea. You are so lucky to have two really great dogs in your life.
