Almost finished tourist corridor in Mazatlán

August 3, 2012

I got out this morning to take some pictures, unfortunately the work isn’t as far done as I’d hoped.  Above, you’ll see our main cathedral, with a pulmonia passing by in front.

We are all a little puzzled about the purpose of these black posts. Love the new light posts, though.

All the crosswalk pavers are in a multi-colored pattern.

Below you’ll see the white street lamps installed two years ago on the left, in the middle background the new light posts, and on the right, the old light posts.  Hmmmm.

Just when we thought Constitución was about done, they started messing with Benito Juárez!

Below is a new parking garage in Centro.  I like how they retained the old facade, don’t you?

I’m off on vacation for a week – not sure if I’ll be posting while I’m gone or not, but I’ll see you soon!

      1. Shannon, Yes, it will be fine, poco a poco. – Hey, check your Facebook messages, I sent you one a couple days ago.

    1. Have a great trip, but then you always do when you connect with your family. Now, you have me MORE than curious about those black metal thingies. Tying up your mule? Fun also to see the progress (and lack of it) of the construction. Nothing will be too much of a surprise when I get there.

    1. Nancy – great pictures as usual. I am glad to see that the sidewalks are being constructed as a continuous unit. In the past they were different widths and had odd steps in them made it quite difficult for older people to walk on.

I would state that the black objects are bollards and that they are intended to keep vehicles away from the sidewalks. The ones at the corners are probably traffic calming devices and help slow down vehicles as they turn the corners, as well as keep the larger vehicles from impacting pedestrians. Of course they could be for other unknown reasons as well…

    1. Thanks for all the photos, Nancy! It is great to be able to keep track of what’s happening while we are away! Is there anything happening on Venus?

    1. Great pics! Welcome back to the USA for a while! Enjoy your time with your family.
