Springtime in Mazatlán means the end of the winter season. We love our snowbird friends but there is just something wonderful about the change in the city as it starts to warm up. In my opinion it is perfect right now – there are patches here and there where it’s a bit too warm but we’re still sleeping with the windows open and heading out for our exercise even as late as 9 am! Perfection!
After all the festivities of Semana Santa the city slid right in to Moto Week. I always love Moto Week, but this time I decided to just enjoy it and not take any pictures. Below is a video I think is the best that circulated around town… at the very beginning you’ll see Sinaloa’s Governor, Mario Lopez Valdez leading the riders. (black helmet and vest) And… at 20 seconds you’ll see Mazatlán’s Mayor, Carlos Felton, and his wife on a three wheeled Can-am motorcycle. (black baseball cap on him, brown blouse on her) The parade is always a blast, as I’m sure you can tell.
Last night was the final art walk of the season and we had a good time visiting several art venues. It was with sadness that we attended the final night for Luna Gallery, but we’re happy for owner Glen Rogers as she’ll be able to focus more on her own art, her printmaking workshops and her art tours around México.
There is still plenty to do around town, with lots of cultural events fromCultura, and movies and musical events at El Recreo. I’m still crazy for my daily power walk and love to walk at least part of the way in the ocean. But I can see summer on the horizon and am looking forward to a season of home projects, sewing, knitting, reading and cooking through those warm days.

May 3, 2014This makes me homesick for Maz, I always loved the lead-in to summer. So glad you are still taking your walks, they do you so much good, Nancy!

May 3, 2014It must be nice to have culture in town. I am heading off to Mexico City to get a dose of it.
I fully agree with you about Spring being my favorite season on the coast. The crowds are gone and the weather is still on the border of being bearable. This year is a bit odd, though, down our way. It felt as if summer never really lost its hold.

May 3, 2014Good thoughts Nancy, at what to me might be the most interesting and enjoyable time of year. Yes those of us who have summer here have a great time, don’t we?

May 4, 2014Judith, I hope you’re not too homesick and are enjoying San Miguel. But Maz (and I) miss you.
Steve, One of the things I love about it here are the wonderful cultural events practically every day.
Wendy, Yes, it is nice when summer rolls around…. might give us time for a bit of a catch-up, one of these days I think!

May 8, 2014So sad about the Luna Gallery closing. I hope it was a good Art Walk despite the dwindling numbers of us snowbirds.
