The director of the Instituto Sinaloense de Cultura, Sergio Jacobo, officially starts the filming
There’s a movie being filmed in Mazatlán this week. It is called “Asesinato y Reencarnación: Un Romance.” It is based on a book by Juan José Rodríguez that’s titled Murder in A Chinese Laundry. Filming started Monday, and stars Shalim Ortiz, Liz Gallardo, Raúl Méndez, Martha Aura and Ari Brickman. The director is Eduardo Rossoff.
The main drag through Olas Altas in Centro has been shut down now for three days of filming. While we haven’t watched anything but people carrying things on and off trucks, friends of ours watched them shoot one scene for more than an hour.
The first indication that something was up was when the normal front of the old Belmar Hotel was transformed into an old style jewelry store. This is where most of the filming has taken place so far. (See below)
We’re lucky, as we mostly walk when we do things around Centro, so the street closure hasn’t affected us. The paper reports that the filming will take place over three weeks, but doesn’t say if it will all be at the Belmar. For trivia lovers, the Belmar Hotel was a favorite in the 40’s and 50’s of film star John Wayne and his friends.
I’m sure we’ll go see the movie when it comes out, whenever that is!

1st. Mate, Yes, it has been nuts over there. But this morning, the malecon is open again and there is no trace of the film trucks. Wonder where they are today?

July 2, 2009That’s fun. Have you ever noticed how many Mexican movies are out there? We get a couple of Mexican movie channels and there are so many movies especially from the 60s and 70s! There’s even one I saw that was filmed in Guaymas and San Carlos in the 60s before San Carlos was more than a couple of little houses! I love the drama!
