It’s Moto Week in Mazatlán!

April 10, 2010

Semana Santa and Moto Week overlapped this year in Mazatlán!  Semana Santa ends this Sunday, with school back in session next Monday, and 15,000 motorcycles descended on Mazatlán for the 15th Annual Moto Week that started last Thursday and runs through tomorrow.  The hotels are full and happy, and the atmosphere is festive and fun.

Thursday night we drove up to the Golden Zone to have dinner at Zab Thai (yes, it was delicious, of course) and what a scene it was!  There were bikes everywhere!  And while we’re used to little scooters taking chances driving in between two lanes of traffic, it is a bit nerve wracking to have huge Harley Davidsons driving less than an inch from your door!  Helmet laws here have been suspended for Moto Week so of course that made me even more nervous!  Everyone was having a blast!

Friday night we met friends at sunset at the bar at the top of the Freeman Hotel.  It was a perfect evening, balmy air and (amazingly) attentive service.  The picture at the top of the post was taken looking down at Olas Altas as many of the bikers collected for an evening in Old Town.  There was a pretty sunset, and surfers were taking advantage of the waves.

I took a bit of video from the top of the Freeman and then from La Cueva del Leon on the malecon.  There was a band playing at Fonda Santa Clara and while some bikes were parked so everyone could admire them, many “cruised” the malecon over and over.  It made me laugh that in between the giant bikes were little delivery scooters and even a raspado vendor with his motorcycle/puesto.

Theresa in Mérida, there is a pulmonia in the video at the 1 minute mark and also just before the end.  This evening is the parade, and I will be there, trying to catch the best of the best for my readers.  See you later!

Share and Enjoy !

What fun! You gotta love those bikers. My friend Gordy from Puerto Escondido is cruising around your streets right now – Maybe next year Anita and I will scoot there (well throw the scooter in the back of the truck and head there 😉

      Saludos – John & Anita

      1. John, If you and Anita decide to come, you know you have a place to stay with us! Do it! Nancy
