Fifteen days…..

Our 120 year old home has some wonderful old features, and four sets of these lovely cedar doors are some of my favorites.  When we bought the house they had been cleaned and restored, but had no hardware!  And since three bedrooms need their privacy, we had been looking for the appropriate type of hardware. It’s hard to find hardware that would look right on these doors.  We didn’t want to use normal locksets & handles since we didn’t want...

Insects on Parade

Last night there was a parade in Mazatlán of giant insects from Spain courtesy of the Instituto Sinaloense de Cultura.  Among them were an ant, a carnivorous plant, and the best of all (see above) a praying mantis. They were sort of part puppet and part robot as they marched along “munching” the palm trees and scaring kids. It was a blast, and pretty much impossible to describe.  I took a long video but we were actually too close for...

Aaaaah. I love my family.

Hey!  I’m back!  What a wonderful five days it’s been.  We had been so looking forward to a visit with Adam and Martha – we hadn’t seen them since we visited them in Mexico City in May.  And with a baby on the way, we wanted to get in on the fun of hanging out with a beautiful expectant mother and hearing all their news. We’d bought some beautiful gladiolas Sunday at the flower market on our way...

Old-style Mexican construction…part two

For those of you interested in remodeling and construction in Mexico, here’s an update on the status of our backyard remodeling project.  The first installment is here.  I am keeping a photo gallery on the project here. The previous installment left the project with the wood supports inserted in the wall (for the new roof) and the new slab poured. Since then, there has been a lot of progress.  First they had to raise the salvage wood posts.  These things...

Transitions.

Transitions.  We used to be all about planning our move.  Then making the move.  Then I wrote about everything foreign and strange.  That was then…now I blog about our ordinary life, but our ordinary life in Mexico.  And it’s a good life. Life has been all about the little things, lately. We’re back in Spanish class.  Another couple we know is pretty well matched with us skills-wise, so we now have a four person class twice a week.  It is...
