Even My Lists Have Lists

I thought I’d do a quick post in response to a comment from Malcolm of Dropped In on one of our recent posts… He said that he sold a lot of books and cds on Amazon. I have sold a number of books and household items on eBay and also on Craigslist but have been struggling as to the best way to handle some of the things we own. And of course, get the most money. I could do...

We Are Getting Excited!

Our trip to Mazatlan and Queretaro is coming right up! We are going to do our best to interview these cities as potential hometowns – while knowing that a vacation is quite different than actually living somewhere. Somehow, though, I think we’ll know the place when we see it. When we first saw the property we live on now we had an immediate positive reaction to it – and we knew we wanted to buy it even before we...

The door is open – come on in.

Enter at your own risk…it’s kind of a mess here! The first picture is of me at my desk working on moving all our music from cds to the computer. We recently bought a Creative Zen 60 GB MP3 player as well as a 160 GB hard drive for backups. Our thinking is that all our music as well as our data will be on the new hard drive. Of course the new MP3 player will be a treat...

Why Blog?

I thought about doing a post yesterday but I loved that picture of Seattle and didn’t want to see it moved lower on the page…isn’t that dumb? What a beautiful day that was, though. As we become more and more immersed in planning our move, the blogs I read daily become more and more important to me. I just want to know what people are thinking and doing so much – I guess to try to project what I...

Finally…a beautiful day in the Northwest

It’s been a crazy winter here in Washington but the snow finally melted and the sun came out on Saturday. Paul’s daughter had been visiting from New York City for a few days, and Saturday we headed to Seattle to deliver her to her friends. It was so sunny we decided to take a walk on the malecon at Alki Beach (I know, they don’t call them that here!) and stopped in to Salty’s for drinks and a view of...

Our Last Snowy Winter

This is a picture of the front piece of our property. Kind of looks like a Christmas card, doesn’t it? We’ve had snow on the ground for the last week, and another snowstorm hit this morning. Paul is working from home…the weatherman says it will turn to rain by this afternoon. We really hope it does since we have to pick up Paul’s daughter at the airport this afternoon. It hardly seems possible that we could be hoping for rain!...

Let’s Learn Spanish!

I am working on learning Spanish by employing a number of different methods. Some seem to help me more than others. I was thinking about how a child learns language. They learn “mom”, “dad”, “cookie”, etc…and as time goes on they add verbs and conjunctions and before you know it they have simple sentences. What this revelation did for me is made it clear to me that I need more nouns in my vocabulary. I checked a book out...

Concerns

A few days ago Nancy wrote a post about reasons to move to Mexico, and I agree with them based on what we have observed on our trips down, and what we have read in our research. I would add climate to her list, and in fact this is one of my top reasons. However, I have some concerns about things that may not be so great about living there for me: 1. Mexico is a very catholic country,...

Why Mexico?

There are many reasons that we want to move to Mexico, and I thought I’d explain a few of them. These are not in order of importance! 1. Because We Can Retire. Paul is going to be 62 in June. I’m 9 years younger. If we are going to be able to both retire, we really can’t do it here. Given our financial circumstances, if Paul were to retire here and take his social security and pensions, I would have...

Sacrifices

As the time for our move draws closer, reality has started to sink in. Nancy has talked a lot about getting rid of most of our things so we can make a clean break. I am all for this, I like to think that I am not unduly attached to material things and this is an opportunity to test that. So far I am fine as I see things around the house start to disappear, and I don’t think...

Happy New Year!

We spent the last few days enjoying a visit from Number One Son and his family, which includes our two delightful grandchildren. New Year’s Day meant a feast and festivities with them and also my younger sister and her family. Of course it was wonderful. It was also a passage. Next New Year’s we won’t be here. We’ll be in Mexico. So, the passage to 2007 was a big one for us – one that makes us feel very...

Book Synopsis

As stated in a previous post, I just finished reading How to Learn Any Language Quickly, Easily, Inexpensively, Enjoyably and On Your Own by Barry Farber. I guess I am smart since a number of the suggestions he makes for learning any language are ones that I’d already worked out for myself. Take full advantage of opportunities – If you meet someone at a party, or a cab driver, or wherever you run into someone in your target language...
