The second annual showing of the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show by Mazatlan Film and Theater at El Recreo was a big success! Everyone had a great time and there were some fantastic costumes. Some people dressed up like Rocky Horror characters and others came in Halloween costumes. Wine and prizes were provided by Mazatlan Film & Theater sponsor MazatlanMyCity.com and the Jonathon Hotel – there were delicious tapas available to purchase from Sugarpop, too. At the top of this post you’ll see a couple of Magentas all ready to make some trouble! (Sorry about the yellow cast to the photo, I was experimenting with my camera and it didn’t really work out…)
It was set up so we reserved tickets online and then paid for them on arrival. Can you see that even the volunteers working the till are having a good time? (By the way, she had a Very Important Role for the movie goers who had never seen Rocky Horror before!)
There was a costume contest and while I didn’t get a picture of the winner, in the photo below you’ll see a group of us with Dr. Frank N. Furter, the second place winner. From left to right you see Frida Kahlo, Magenta, Magenta after the coup, and Dr. Frank N. Furter.
Paul and I dressed up in Halloween costumes, as Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. We had so much fun! (Although Paul asked me to wash off the eyebrows as soon as we got home, it seems they were scaring him!) I was lucky to win a prize for best Halloween costume! Thank you so much Mazatlan My City!
What follows are a few more pictures from the evening, there were some amazing costumes and many that I missed taking pictures of, too. Can you tell we know how to have fun in Mazatlán?

November 2, 2013Wow! You and Paul look great as Diego and Frida. And the whole event looks like a lot of fun.
Reminds me of the time a few years back that F and I went to see the Rocky Horror Show performed live in DF. That was the first time for me that I was able to watch such a thing entirely in Spanish and actually understand it. It was also a lot of fun just to hear it sung and acted in Spanish.

Where in our teen years, we’d often see the Rocky Horror Picture Show every Saturday night for weeks on end.

November 2, 2013What a great community to be part of.
And I am with Paul. Frida’s eyebrows were almost anthropomorphic.
Congratulations. Great costume.
