I know it’s fall in most of the world, but in Mazatlán it is still summer. That means hot and humid. Paul and I decided it would be a good idea to have a bit of a break in the cool of Mexico City, and rented an apartment for two weeks of visiting family and exploring. Our apartment is in Colonia Condesa, a neighborhood we have visited numerous times when our son and his family lived here. But it’s very convenient to their new place just about a dozen blocks away in Colonia Roma Norte. A typical street in Condesa is at the top of this post, and a view of our apartment is below.
Below is another pic from a walk on the path in the middle of Amsterdam, an oval circuit that is well used by bikers and dog walkers – as well as retired visitors. I love that the street sweepers here use twig brooms to keep everything tidy.
We went to the weekly tianguis here in Condesa on Tuesday. What a nice weekly market it was! If I lived here I would get most of my produce there and forget about the grocery store! Everything was beautiful and fresh. I bought a cup of pomegranate seeds to eat as we browsed. Delicious.
We also spent a whole day at the Museum of Anthropology. I had been wanting to visit there for years and finally we had enough time for it. It was an absolutely incredible experience – truly a highlight of 2012 for me! The next five photos are from the museum.
As you can see, it is an amazing place. I took lots of photos and when we get hope I’ll make a photo gallery of all of them.
We’ve been having lots of fun hanging out with our family, going to swimming lessons with our granddaughter, watching a movie in a VIP theater, and tonight we’ll be going to Lucha Libre.
One strange thing is that we are here enjoying the cool sunshine while Tropical Storm Norman is drowning Mazatlán in rain. It’s quite a storm coming through and it looks like the harsh weather will continue for another day or two. If you want to check it out there are webcams hosted by El Cid resort and Wave Chasers if you’d like to check them out. People are posting all kinds of scary photos on Facebook of kids boogie boarding on Calle Roosevelt and the waves at Olas Altas. I hope our house is fine – but regardless it will probably have dried out by the time we get back!
I’m pretty pleased with my new Sony RX10 camera as I am exploring its features as we explore the city. It’s so small I have it with me everywhere and love everything about it.
Stay safe everyone!

September 29, 2012So much to love and enjoy there and the walking…sighhh. If only it were possible to magically transport Mexico City’s safe and, for the most part, well maintained sidewalks to Mazatlan. My first day here in a year, and I trip. The wonderful choices of restaurants, too. I wish Mazatlan had more of a variety and more people here to enjoy them. That’s the key, I guess.

September 29, 2012Nancy,
Thanks for the link(s)…the webcam site “rocks” (trying to relate to the younger folks) when you click on the “24 hours” button. Safe travels.

September 29, 2012Love that museum, you could easily spend a week there. Did you get to the textiles section on the second floor, totally your thing. What a neat apartment, would you mind sharing the rental costs?

September 29, 2012I hope Todd and I get time soon, for a visit like yours. I would love to spend a day, or 2 or 3 in the Museum of Anthropology. In the past our visits have been short and I still haven’t seen the Museum. The apartment looks charming.
I also really enjoyed the webcams. It’s kind of odd to be sitting hundreds of miles away in the mountains watching people walk on the beach. It looked clear and sunny though.
It’s a shame you couldn’t stop by and see us in San Miguel, but I am glad that you are having such a great holiday!
