It’s big news in my world

You may be scratching your head while you look at the picture above and thinking to yourself “what the heck is this picture of, anyway?”   But since I couldn’t show you how great the house smells, or how nice and shiny the floors are, or how there is no dust anywhere that I could find….I figured these four coasters laid in a decorative way on the table would tell you that we now have some help in the housework...

December in Mazatlan

We’ve only been here since September, but we feel like we are home. I had no idea that it would be this easy to settle in and feel comfortable. A few things to share: It’s wonderful to live in sandals! My feet have never been happier! I had worried a bit about how I would find enough reading material. I’m glad to say there is a used bookstore, several places to swap books and an English library. I have successfully...

Random Observations

There are tons of things I love about Mazatlan. Some of them are probably unique to Mazatlan and some are similar throughout Mexico. Here are a few: Bike Cops – Mazatlan has a ton of them. They wear t-shirts and shorts with a gun clipped to their belt. They ride all over, not just on the malecon, and they are friendly to everyone. I don’t know why, but they just make the city feel more approachable and friendly. Mosquitoes –...

Life, continued

Tomorrow is our one month anniversary living here in Mazatlan. We really do love it here, and discover wonderful people and places every day. We continue to become more and more comfortable in our home – a desk for the office is wonderful – no more plastic table and things scattered on the surface. We have drawers! Today we bought two inexpensive chaise lounges for our upstairs terrace since now that the evenings are cool we thought it would be...

Home Sweet Home

We have been in Mazatlan since Friday evening….and here it is Wednesday! It has been a VERY busy time, but we have been having a blast. We spent two days at the B & B – which was wonderful but a pain since we had the dogs with us. Every time we went anywhere I worried they would bother someone but thankfully the only other guest was a working man who was gone all day. We couldn’t take them with...

I’m heading home

Pulmonia It has been so nice to be here, even if it was only for a few days. It is so wonderful to be close to the beach. I feel much more serene when I can walk on the beach with my feet in the cool water. The foamy tingle. The endless sky. Pelicans. I feel connected with the earth in a very primal way. Back home there is a park near our house with huge, old growth cedars...

Nuestra casa, nuestra casa!

Yes, it is our house now! The wire transfers came through, the signatures are done, the notario is paid, and the house is ours! After so much buildup is was incredibly easy. Happy faces and handshakes all around. I went to dinner with the former owner of our house (wow that was fun to type) last night and it was great to finally relax and get to know each other now that it is over! He is getting going on...

Things to do in Mazatlan

There’s a lot to do and see in Mazatlan. We have only scratched the surface…but here are a few things we recommend doing when you are in Mazatlan: Enjoy the Plazuela Machado in the evening. This picture is from our last evening in Mazatlan, after dinner at about 10 pm on Friday. Families are strolling, kids are playing in the kiosko, lovers are kissing on the benches, and people are eating at the many restaurants.   Watch the sunset...
