I remember a long time ago…

December 23, 2008

Today would have been my dad’s 82nd. birthday.  He died in 1982 and while I frequently don’t notice the anniversary of his death, I always remember his birthday.  He was an incredible person…brilliant, thoughtful, kooky, loving, and hardworking.

I started to write a short summary of what made him so interesting and special, and it started to go on for too long and I realized that it wouldn’t do him justice.  But still I thought I would like to mark the day, especially for family who may be reading this.

A photo gallery is below.

    1. Very nice tribute. I think of my dad almost every day — especially, that moment in the morning when I catch his reflection in the mirror.

    1. so awesome, Nancy. I especially love the one of your parents at the U of Chicago.

    1. Aren’t memories of loved ones wonderful. Thanks for sharing your memories in photos.

    1. Steve, I wish I knew what you meant…my mom died when I was 16 and she was 40 so I am way older than she ever was. But I do remember getting my hair cut a long time ago and freaking out at the beauty parlor because I looked so much like her!

Jillian, Thanks. That’s one of my very favorite pictures, too. Back in those days people didn’t snap away as much so we don’t have too many. The U of Chicago was one of the stories I was going to tell, though. Both my mom and dad were so smart that they were two of 12 kids (dad was 16/mom 15) who got full ride 4 year scholarships to the U of Chicago. This was about 1940. They hung with an intellectual crowd, and in general were cool and smart. I love the rolled up pants and reckless sprawl in the photo.

Gin, you’re welcome! It was my pleasure.

    1. In our travels through Mexico, I was impressed over and over by the decorations on on all the graves. It is beautiful to remember those we love and have loved.
