Paul and I headed to Mexico City in August for a couple of weeks visiting family. Our youngest granddaughter Consuelo wasn’t back in school yet and our older granddaughter Erica is doing a semester abroad and living in Mexico City with my son and his family. So that’s a two-fer that we couldn’t pass up! (Two granddaughters at once, get it?)

We spent the first three days of our trip in Mexico City. We explored downtown, got a tour of Erica’s school and met some of her friends. &We had a fabulous super-meal (like 4 hours) at La Docena, (Obregon 31, Colonia Roma) delicious chocolate and pastries at Panadería Rosetta (Colima 179, Colonia Roma) and a stroll through the newly reconstructed Parque Pushkin. We always have a great time in Mexico City and as always our time was too short.

Paul and Erica and I took the bus to Tepoztlán on Friday afternoon as it would have been a crunch in the car and it was good to show Erica the bus as she’ll be using it back and forth some weekends for sure. We spent the rest of our time in the town of Tepoztlán, Morelos, at their weekend house.

Paul and I stayed by ourselves after everyone went back to the work week in the city, then they rejoined us the following weekend. What a great time we had! And I can’t forget that I was lucky this time to enjoy ice cream at Tepoznieves twice – I had guanabana both times, it was delicious. Tepoznieves is my favorite ice cream place ever, they were founded in Tepoztlán and are pretty much on every block downtown.

The picture at the top is of one of the most beautiful trees encountered on our hike to the waterfall in the mountains near their house. Following will be lots more pictures, too. Just scroll along and you’ll see what a beautiful place it is, especially in the rainy season. The air was cool and fresh and we had a welcomed respite from the heat here in Mazatlán.
