We are back from our delightful week of relaxing at Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay. The resort is on the beach at Cerritos, just past the MazAgua water park and the Estero de Yugo that we’ve written about twice before. One of our friends wasn’t going to be using their timeshare this year and so, so kindly offered it to us! What a treat!
We spent the week sleeping in, swimming or floating in one of four pools, napping, reading, and walking on the beach. It was an amazingly refreshing and relaxing time away from our responsibilities at home. On Monday and Friday nights we listened (and danced) to Rafael Rodriguez in Kelly’s Bar. (Watch this You Tube video of him…) Funny thing, too – we came back home Sunday afternoon and that evening had very nice dinner at Pedro & Lola’s in the Plazuela Machado. Who should be singing in the kiosko in the center of the plazuela? Rafael Rodriguez! Nice.
The grounds at Pueblo Bonito are beautiful and there are so many different palm trees it was like an arboretum. I took a lot of pictures, and they’re in the album below.

We love our life and our home here in Centro Historico but it was wonderful to watch the sun set every night and experience the many different colors of the ocean water. Sometimes it was as smooth as a lake, and sometimes it was rough and loud. One night we thought it might rain – and we were looking forward to it – but unfortunately, it didn’t.
We only left the property once for the whole week, taking our new friends Max and Karen on a bit of a city tour and to stop by our house before lunch at The Water’s Edge. They hadn’t been able to take a bus tour because Max was a bit weak from chemotherapy treatments. We know all about that! I think they got a favorable impression of Mazatlan as they called me later for a dentist recommendation and will be returning for dental work twice more this fall!
I am feeling almost like my old self again (physically, I mean… I am forever changed by the cancer experience) so you’ll see more blog posts in the future.

June 26, 2013Nancy, thanks for this great report – it certainly looks like a wonderful week for the two of you. It was so pleasing to read that you are almost feeling your old self again. You are looking so wonderful and the idea of you feeling completely physically recovered is a very exciting one. A trooper like you was never going to concede, so we knew you were going to come through. Nonetheless although there is no surprise, we are very grateful to have you back without any more time passing. Welcome.
