My Reading Life

November 24, 2021

I am an avid reader and I love this time of year as every major magazine and newspaper seems to release their “Favorite Books of the Year” lists. I pore through them, adding books to my Goodreads “want to read” lists and downloading those I want to read first. The New York Times list is one of the first of the season, if you want to check it out it is here.

At the top of this post is a picture of the stack of books waiting on my bedside table. Ooops, no – those books are waiting on my iPad to be read – except for the Lily King, which I am reading right now.

I keep track of my reading on Goodreads, and they report that so far in 2021 I have read 67 books. The first pandemic year I only read 46, likely because I just couldn’t concentrate between the pandemic, the former US administration, and the 2020 election. What a stressful time!

I thought I’d share my reading this year with you with images of the books I’ve read. I thought I would highlight those I’d especially recommend, but really they have all been wonderful. There are many on the environmental issues facing us as well as some post-apocalyptic novels but mostly contemporary fiction. It has been a year of fantastic books for me and I hope you’ll find a few that interest you. I sure wouldn’t mind if you would share any of your favorite books in the comments, too!

The Night Watchman is by Louise Erdrich, the image cut off her name
This book deserved a spotlight
The Sentence by Louise Erdrich also has a wonderful reading list at the back of the book. I need to visit her bookstore in Minnesota one day!

I love that Goodreads allows me to have a virtual bookshelf that I can browse through and enjoy. I wonder how many books I will read in the next month? Can you tell that one of the joys of retirement for me is the immense pleasure I get from books? Happy reading everyone!

Share and Enjoy !
