The Pack is on the Move! (to the Lake Chapala area, Jalisco)

June 10, 2018

Finally the time for our move is here!  In less than a week we will be on our way to our new home in the Lake Chapala area to the town of San Antonio Tlayacapan. I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to a new place to explore.

We have been getting to know the area by reading the local forums and Facebook pages.  There are lots of things that are interesting to us and I know we’ll have fun deciding what activities we’ll want to look into further. I’ve made a page (on the Resources link, above) to Lake Chapala Area links if you want to explore a little yourself.

There is a reader’s theater and a regular community theater. There is an active vegan/vegetarian group that gets together for meals and shares restaurant experiences. There are lots of day trips – one I am missing in the first week is a group trip to Guadalajara yarn shopping! How wonderful is that? There are several well regarded dog training and day care places so Coco and Henry have some fun ahead, too.

One thing I am excited for is the variety of markets. Monday through Thursday there are mercados and tianguis nearby. The Farmer’s market on Tuesday is full of all kinds of organic or homemade goodies, and the Wednesday market in Ajijic is fabulous. We’ve been to both of those in the past, and loved them. There are several others that will be closer to us that I look forward to getting to know.

This last week is going to be bittersweet as we enjoy so many things here for the last time. We are really going to miss our good friends here in Mazatlán, but we know that we aren’t that far away and hope to have many visitors.

I sure hope you will continue to read Countdown to Mexico as we share our experiences settling into our new home!

      1. Hi Susan, Yes our house sold very fast, we are excited for a new adventure.

    1. Going to miss you here in Maztalan, but I look forward to hearing all about your new adventures! All BEST WISHES!

    1. Nancy,

Oh my goodness! I have been reading your blog for years following your journey from Washington to Mazatlan. It was living vicariously through you and Paul that encouraged me to keep my dream alive about someday retiring and becoming an expat. Well, we did just that. I retired last year and my wife and I moved to guess where…yes, you guessed it, San Antonio Tlayacapan! I would be honored if we could get together sometime soon for lunch or dinner.

      Kind Regards,
      Troy

      1. Oh, that is so funny, Troy! We will have to get together. Once we get unpacked and sorted a little I will send you an email!

    1. Life is a daring adventure or nothing! Enjoy your “new season” Nancy. Now we will be closer
and might even meet some day. I’m thrilled for you and Paul.

My first visit to that area was in the early 70’s. It reminded me of Hawaii. Buen suerte.
IF you’re ever heading toward San Miguel, please let me know.
      Babs

      1. Hi Babs, Yes, we are excited to be more centrally located, too. Several of our friends from Maz spend summers in SMA, and we have only been there for one day many years ago visiting Billie and Ned. So we do need to come and check out your world and finally meet you! xoxo

    1. I can’t imagine Mazatlan without you! I wish you the best of everything in your new home and look forward to reading here about your adventures!

      1. Yes, it does seem strange to leave a place we have enjoyed for so long but the time is right. Change is good, right!?!
