Restaurant options continue to improve for vegetarians in Mazatlan. Paul and I ate yesterday at the brand new vegan restaurant La Ruta, and I know we’ll go back often. It has a bit of a funky modern vibe and the food is very good. Located on Vicente Guerrero 216 a block and a half East of Aquiles Serdan it is on the edge of Centro Historico.
We ordered jamaica agua frescas (hibiscus flower flavored water) from the owner, Andrea, that were served in jelly jars with bright yellow straws. Paul’s pasta pesto was a generous portion with lots of sun dried tomatoes and came with several pieces of garlic bread. I had a baguette with non-meat jamón (ham), avocado, and tomato. It came with french fries. All menu items are totally non-meat.
As you can see from the pictures here, the prices are good, too. It’s a very comfortable, quirky space and that I expect to be very popular with vegetarians and meat eaters alike. They are open from 1 to 8 Thursday through Sunday.
>La Ruta joins other relative newcomer favorites of ours Casa Arabe (on Cinco de Mayo just South of Plazuela Zaragoza), Morena’s Taste of India (just off the Plazuela Machado on Sixto Osuna), Cafe Playa Sur (on Carnaval two blocks South of Miguel Aleman) and San Lorenzo’s (on Carnaval just around the corner from Pedro & Lola’s.) I hope you give some of these excellent restaurants a try. All the links here are to Facebook pages.
