Every year we celebrate El Dia de Los Muertos (the day of the dead) along with the rest of México by creating an altar in our home. Our only loss in my family since last year was our sweet Lab mix, Lucy, so you’ll see her picture and collar on the left. There are also pictures of our parents and grandparents and some tequila and beer to keep them enjoying the hereafter happy hour. Sadly, the empty frame remains in our altar again this year as a sadness in my life remains unchanged.
Tonight we’ll head out to the callejoneada – an evening of following the donkey-pulled beer carts from altar to altar around Centro. So stay tuned, I’m sure I’ll have some fun pictures to show you tomorrow.

November 1, 2011Great stuff! Nice to see that you celebrate the local holidays. I hope that whatever sadness you have resolves itself. Saludos!
p.s. Enjoying the blog.

November 1, 2011Andrew, We like this holiday a lot – taking a moment to remember those important people who have passed on. (And I hope the sadness resolves, too. Those you love can hurt you more than those you don’t…)

November 2, 2011My landlady Christine has invited me to place an object for Jiggs on her altar. It was a touching offer that I will accept.

November 2, 2011Steve, That was sweet of her – but I bet she had a soft spot for Jiggs, too.
