Exciting times!

Can you tell the dogs are excited about the move? (Lucy the lab mix & Henry the Schnoodle) I am heading back to Mazatlan on Monday – closing on our new house is scheduled for Tuesday!   We were talking to the current owner last night and he asked us if the dogs were excited, so I had to post the picture, above. They know SOMETHING is up, but they don’t know what.   So, I am flying on...

Decisions, decisions….

Paul and I have made a big decision this weekend. We’ve decided that the only things we’re going to bring with us are the things we can fit in our Honda mini-van. We bought a 21 cubic foot cargo box for the top and we are going to buy a 13 cubic foot cargo box for the back. The way-back seats fold into the floor but we are probably going to have to leave the two middle row seats...

We’ve done it!

Only one day after my planned listing date of May 15, our house is on the market! I can’t believe the day finally came.   The house still needs some small things done – like re-caulking the shower and some touch-up paint outside, but the big work is over. The place looks beautiful.   Now I just need to keep on top of the yard work and make sure the house is clean. That seems easy after the chaos...

Whew!

What a week this has been! The house is in total disarray and at times I feel like I am never going to get done….then Paul comes home and calms me down and shows me how much progress I’ve made. Last night I was close to meltdown and thankfully we went out for dinner. Afterwards I felt hopeful again. This week the handyman came and boxed in a beam in the basement. I caulked, and sanded, and primed. I sanded...

Monday is a Big Day!

and the big day is…..that Paul is going to give three months notice at work! That’s a huge milestone for us – and almost perfectly coincides with the 95 days remaining on our Countdown clock! Amazing that it is already here. We are also excited for our next trip to Mazatlan, and we are going to be looking at houses. The work here at home is moving along very well. The painting got done, and looks wonderful. We are having...

These are some crazy times

It’s funny how I am fully experiencing every day lately. Not like sometimes, where only looking back do you realize how great a day was, or how much you liked something. For example, today is a day to remember. The painters are here, and plastic is draped all over everything. The kitchen was totally taped and plasticized before I realized I was hungry so while they were out in their cars eating I untaped a couple of places and grabbed...

Hard Labor

I’ve always been a tomboy. Skinned knees and stubbed toes. Messy hair and dripping brow….dirty and able to work with endless energy. When we moved to this property I embraced the garden – dove right in and came up sweating and dirty. As I mentioned before, one of my favorite things is my weed whacker – a professional model with a harness. When I strap that thing on I am Wonder Woman Weed Whacker! I can go all day, and...

Progress continues….

It has been a while since I posted since the projects I am doing around here don’t really seem blog-worthy. I spend my days painting, caulking, shopping at Home Depot and working outside when the weather permits. We seem to have had endless days of rain at least part of the day, so outside projects have been mostly abandoned for now. I finished painting the laundry room and got it put back together after the handyman installed the lower cabinets...

Every day means more progress

The kitchen seat still needs a couple of throw pillows but I am very happy with how it turned out. We started this blog to document the process of our move to Mexico, and right now most of our focus is on getting our house and property ready to sell. It is exciting now because everything I do is so visible. We still have a lot to do but I have a week-by-week to-do list and so far our...

April already

Time is just flying by! We are in our last month before we list the house and lots of projects are being completed. It feels so good! We have been working outside quite a bit and the property is looking great. I’m glad we had the tree trimmers leave us a huge pile of wood chips when they were here last winter, as we have been putting them on all the beds. I have been transplanting and dividing lots of...

Woo-hoo!

Check it out! We had a fabulous garage sale Saturday – in spite of the almost torrential rain. It was a crazy day. Since we are really motivated to get rid of stuff we priced everything quite low, and stuff flew out of here! It shocked both of us that we made $1,900! Crazy! We even were able to give away a bunch of rabbit cages in various states of disrepair, two broken lawnmowers, and old fence posts. I’m planning...

It’s coming together

It’s a big project to move out of the country…but things are proceeding pretty well. Just this week I realized that I’m not as tense as I was since more and more of my tasks are either completed or planned. Our garage sale is this weekend, and we have a pretty good feeling about how it will go. Our pet sitters and my hair stylist have passed the word, and I have put up advertisements and an ad in the...

Nos Volveremos

Lucy and Henry don’t look too excited about it. We’re made our reservations to return to Mazatlan in early May. This time we are going to rent a car so that we can explore every nook and cranny of the city and the surrounding countryside. We’ll only be there a week, but we hope to make headway in locating a house for ourselves, the dogs Lucy and Henry, and our Yellow-Shouldered Amazon, Tiko. (his picture is below) All of...

Project Management is Hard.

As regular readers know, I am not working outside the home anymore, but am “project managing” our move to Mexico. I am a very organized person and I really like to work efficiently….but project managing is harder than I thought! The way I look at it is I need to work backwards from our desired result – which is to be moving to Mexico by September or October of this year. Pretty much all the work around the house needs...

There’s a lot to do!

Hopefully our readers will not feel too cranky about the gaps between posts lately. There is a lot to do to get ready to move – and at the end of the day sometimes I can’t even think about it for another second….but of course I do! I don’t just think about the move, but live and breath it all day and dream about it at night. I am just so excited to be into our final six months! So,...
