We’re back from a break!

Paul’s birthday is in June and each year we have been taking advantage of low season summer specials for hotel rooms in Mazatlán to have a bit of a getaway.  Last year we spent only one night at Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay, and this year decided to spend two nights at the Inn at Mazatlán.  It is great to lounge by the pool and let someone else do the cooking and cleaning! The Inn at Mazatlán’s staff seems very friendly...

Mazatlán’s Shrimp Fleet

Mazatlán has a very large shrimp fleet, and right now they are all in port because the season is closed.  We had an opportunity to see some of the fleet from the water recently and thought we’d share a few photos with you. X X X X If you’re interested in learning a little more about the shrimp boats here in Mazatlan, blogger MazReal did a great post on his visit to the fleet by land here.  ...

The last paint post…

Last time I posted about all the fresh paint going up around town I had said it would be my last post on the topic.  Well, enough people said they enjoyed them so here is another, and yes, this will be my last post about it, for sure!  Especially since we had a few sprinkles last night and I expect the rainy season to begin sometime in the next week – and it really isn’t a good idea to paint...

Centro mini update

There are always lots of projects going on around town.  I thought I’d show you a few, and tell you about a few others. To start with, the good news.  The Mansion of the Garcias, that I have written about before  – most recently here and before that here. The picture above is a picture of the building before work began. The picture below is now. We walked by about a week ago when a crane was delivering some huge...

A walk on the malecon, part two…

A few months ago I posted a video of a walk along the malecon from Olas Altas to the Pulmonia Monument. Well, yesterday was the day that I jumped on my new bike and took you from the Pulmonia Monument to Valentino’s. I hope you enjoy it!  (3 min 52 sec)...

Another garden update

Well, it has been just over one year since we planted all the pots on our upstairs patio.  They had been growing quite happily when the tropical storm season hit and they were mauled by both a tropical depression and non-hurricane Rick.  All’s well that ends well, though, as you can see! At the top is what it looked like right after we finished planting: We’ve done a lot of rearranging and have even bumped a few plants to other...

Progress pics

Three years ago when we bought our house, the courtyard was a mess!  Above is a picture so you can see for yourself! We moved in here in September, and by October we were already having the courtyard overhauled.  If you want to see the step by step, visit the Photos page or click here.   The work was finally done around Christmas, and it wasn’t until February 25, 2008 that we actually planted the beds.  The pictures above and...

Ch- ch- ch- chia

I’ve been on a bit of a chia seed kick ever since I read blogger Lindi from Mérida’s blog post about the benefits of chia seeds. Chia is an Aztec superfood that has many fantastic health properties, and is really worth looking into, in my opinion!  I’ve been taking a spoonful now and then myself but feeding them daily to the dogs.  I am pretty confident that chia has pretty much cleared up our old dog Lucy’s chronic goopy ear...

There’s no place like home…

We love visiting Adam and the family in Mexico City… but we are also happy to get home!  This time I had a severe headache for three days due to the altitude – 7,349 feet above sea level!  And of course  Mazatlán is at sea level!  Finally I visited Dr. Google and found that I should have been taking ibuprofen or tylenol instead of aspirin.  That did the trick!  But then my eyes were burning and my nose was dry...
